Education or teaching in the broadest sense is any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character or physical ability of an individual. In its technical sense education is the process by which society deliberately transmits its accumulated knowledge, skills and values from one generation to another.
This blog is a compendium of my thoughts, feelings and ideas about education, teaching and life. It is a trove of my own reflections about my career and practice as a teacher and counsellor.
What they don't tell you in teacher school! The stuff that happens in the public school system from the perspective of a middle school teacher: the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some folks need to take the advice, and some folks need to feel better knowing they are doing the right thing. Underground Teacher isn't about complaining, but will have its share of complains, but it will have its share of wonderful things that happen in public schools that never seems to make the news.
This blog contains a new ESL teacher's thoughts as she discovers new technology to use in the classroom and tries to implement it. It also includes her thoughts of different methodologies, links to interesting articles and lesson plans she has created.
I dedicate this blog to examining the root causes of insecurity that need to be addressed. At the end of each post, I suggest recommendations in an attempt to address the issue.
